What do you do when you are constantly travelling, staying around in hotels and are tired of carrying that weighty laptop bag with you all the tiem? What do you do when you are at a friend’s house, and you suddenly need your workstation? What do you do when you want to desperately show that funny video of your kid puking all over your wife (who didn’t find it hilarious by the way!) which is on your home PC? You take out that small shiny device from your pocket and plug it into the closest HD screen you can find and voila, you have your workstation right in front of you.
These “pen drive” look-alikes are fully fledged computers powered by Intel Atom processors which can be carried anywhere in your pocket. The first PC on a stick to come into the market is by the Taipei-based technology company, Hannspree. This small PC on a stick weighs less than 40 grams and looks just like a chromecast dongle or one of those very old 128 MB pendrives. Like most of the Stick PCs going to be released this year, including the highly awaited Stick PC from Intel, this device is also powered by a Quad-core Intel Atom Z3735F CPU which is coupled with a 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. The device is not marketed as a desktop replacement and hence storage is provided via a 32 GB of internal memory that should be enough for the work a Stick PC with a monitor is expected to do. The storage can be expanded via a microSD slot that supports up to 128 GB cards. The device comes equipped with all the major connectivity options including 20.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. The device is retailing at a price of £ 150.
The Hannspree Stick PC is the first PC on a Stick that will soon be joined by Intel’s Compute Stick, Zotac ZBOX and many more.
