Windows Stick PC: The Little Shiny Tech Wonder!

What do you do when you are constantly travelling, staying around in hotels and are tired of carrying that weighty laptop bag with you all the tiem? What do you do when you are at a friend’s house, and you suddenly need your workstation? What do you do when you want to desperately show that funny video of your kid puking all over your wife (who didn’t find it hilarious by the way!) which is on your home PC? You take out that small shiny device from your pocket and plug it into the closest HD screen you can find and voila, you have your workstation right in front of you.

These “pen drive” look-alikes are fully fledged computers powered by Intel Atom processors which can be carried anywhere in your pocket. The first PC on a stick to come into the market is by the Taipei-based technology company, Hannspree. This small PC on a stick weighs less than 40 grams and looks just like a chromecast dongle or one of those very old 128 MB pendrives. Like most of the Stick PCs going to be released this year, including the highly awaited Stick PC from Intel, this device is also powered by a Quad-core Intel Atom Z3735F CPU which is coupled with a 2 GB of DDR3 RAM.  The device is not marketed as a desktop replacement and hence storage is provided via a 32 GB of internal memory that should be enough for the work a Stick PC with a monitor is expected to do. The storage can be expanded via a microSD slot that supports up to 128 GB cards. The device comes equipped with all the major connectivity options including 20.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. The device is retailing at a price of £ 150.

The Hannspree Stick PC is the first PC on a Stick that will soon be joined by Intel’s Compute Stick, Zotac ZBOX and many more.

Don’t Want to Carry Your Laptop Around? Carry the Windows Stick PC!

You are at a friend’s place, and you suddenly get an email. You need to submit a design and it is a matter of urgency.  You ask your friend for his laptop but then realize that he wouldn’t have the necessary tools installed. You look around helplessly…What do you do? You put your hand in your pocket and take out the mini Windows Stick PC. Plug it into your friend’s 42” LCD TV and voila! You have your workstation running Windows 8.1. You complete your assignment, pop a beer and chill with your friend.

No, this is not a scene from a futuristic sci-fi movie. This is what is happening right now, all thanks to Windows Stick PCs that are fully functional Windows-based computers that fit into a pendrive-sized device. The new Micro PC by Hannspree is another such device. The Hannspree windows stick PC weighs very less, and is not even 11 cm long. This Windows Stick PC by Hannspree runs on a Quad core Intel Atom Z3735F CPU and a 2 GB DDR3 RAM. The storage is taken care of by 32 GB of EMMC storage that can be extended up to 96 GB via a Micro SD slot. The new Intel Compute Stick runs on Windows 8.1 and comes equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11bgn and also USB 2.0 and Micro USB. The Hannspree Windows Stick PC can be connected to any HD display that has an HDMI output connector. Keyboard and mouse can be connected via Bluetooth.

So, stop worrying and carry your workstation in your pocket anywhere you go and work without hassle. Be it your hotel room or the TV in your living room, just plug in the Intel Compute Stick, and get, set go!

Battle of the Stick PCs

With each passing day, the technology is getting faster, smaller and cheaper. The Windows Stick PCs in the market are a live example of it. Small USB pen drive sized devices running Windows that can be plugged directly into any HD screen and you are good to go! These devices work as HDMI dongles that turn your TV into a full-blown personal computer. Use it as your workstation or to turn your regular 42” HD TV into a smart 42” HD TV.

Currently, there are two windows stick PCs in the market that are competing with each other. The first one is the Hannspree Stick PC. The device is powered by a Quad core Intel Atom Z3735F CPU coupled with a 2Gb DDR3 RAM. The new Hannspree device weighs less than 40 grams and is just 11 cm long. Plug it into any HDMI TV or monitor and voila! You have a personal computer running Windows 8.1. The device comes equipped with a 32 GB internal storage which should fit the bill for most people. But still if you are power hungry, you can extend the storage of the device up to 96 GB by adding an additional 64 GB memory card.

The other Windows Stick PC in the market is by Intel. The soon to be released Intel Windows Stick PC, can easily be carried in your pocket anywhere you want to. The device running Windows 8.1 can also be plugged into any HDMI screen near you and you will have your personal computer up and running in no time! The Hannspree Stick PC is powered by a Quad-core Atom processor that is paired with a 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage that can be extended with the help of a memory card.
